My Quest
Author: Tiffany (Mom)
When I came here 5 years ago, I was scared to go very far from the house on my runs. This year I've been much more adventurous. Last time I would see signs like this one:
I was curious about it but didn't really investigate. This time, I saw this sign by the church in the village:
There is a path from Cilipi to Cavtat?!? I told Brandon that I was going to try and run that path. My next run, I started down the path. I made several wrong turns, so I ended up only going a part of the way to Cavtat. Every run has been getting me a little bit closer to Cavtat. I've made it about halfway down the six mile trail before turning back around. One of these mornings I will make it completely and Brandon will pick me up from Cavtat and we will have breakfast.
The best part of these runs are they are completely trail, with rolling hills, and sometimes very loose rocks. I get glimpses of the sea when I make it up a hill, or turn a corner. I have found two memorials in my runs. I have only seen 3 people total on foot on my runs to Cavtat (it is a walking path, but I don't think its a popular one). It is glorious.
The other day we met with Brandon's cousin and he said there is a Memorial for a Bronzan many generations back by the town of Komaji, but the last time he looked for it, he couldn't find it because it's off of one of the smaller roads (the very roads I've been running on). I took this as a quest to find the memorial. On Tuesday I headed north towards Komaji instead of south towards Cavtat. I told myself that I would only run about 5 miles because I had it in my mind to do 6.2 (or 10 km) in honor of the my favorite road race in Sonoma County on the 4th of July. However, I got carried away and ended up doing over 7 miles. I did find a memorial, I'm not sure if its the one we were looking for. I don't think that I will be doing Komaji again, it's a lot of uphill and the path isn't covered much, so it was very hot.
I did go out on the 4th of July but I knew it wouldn't have been smart to push to 6.2, so I did around 5 miles. It was a nice run, I went to the village and found a turtle! I also ran into some murals, which I saw a lot of in Barcelona but not too much in Croatia. It was perfect because one of the pictures was a penguin, Olivia's favorite animal. I came home and told Luke and Livi that I found a turtle and a penguin on my run! I also ran into 2 massive (and when I say massive, I mean massive) spider webs with nasty looking spiders. I had to stop and shake myself silly to be sure the spiders were not on me. I hate spiders!

Here are some points:
- I like to blog about running because I'm the only one in the family experiencing it. Everything can be told by the others, but not my running. The running is so much fun and I'm sad to be leaving it soon.
- I feel bad because I think about what I'm going to write on the blog while I'm running, but I get in front of the computer and I draw a blank. I feel like I'm a much better writer in my head while running than what you see here.
- There are lots of stray cats running around the house we are staying at and in Cavtat. The cats in Cavtat may be stray but most of them are very friendly. We like to pet them. Last night, one of the cats came and sat right next time while I was eating. You can see the picture on my Instagram.
- When I took Olivia to Luka, the local swimming area, she said "This place is magical" and I completely agree with her, it is magical.
- Olivia picked out the cutest dress and I love it!
- I love Cavtat. I forgot how much I love it. I would go down there for dinner every night if Brandon would let me.
- I have taken so many pictures, I cannot stop taking them. I hope that everyone is enjoying them on my Instagram feed.
- Every day I feel blessed to be here and cannot believe we are here.
That is all for now. We had a great day today, I will let someone else tell you. A lot of people have asked me about Olivia's foot. She is doing much better, doesn't bother her at all. She was lucky, it was the top of her foot and not the bottom of her foot. Now she will only swim in deep water. It's a good thing that it's salt water, swimming is easy to do in the deep water.
That's all for now...
Tiffany Out!
Tiffany, when you run you get to experience so much more than those who aren't running. I did not know you don't like spiders. One of my closest friends goes totally berserk if she even sees a picture of one. LOVE your blog postings.
