Slovenia you have my heart
Author: Tiffany (Mom)
I wrote this blog after our first full day in Slovenia. However, it took me awhile to upload the photos. Yesterday (Day 2) we went to the caves and an incredible castle. A different post will be done on that adventure.
Ok I confess, we decided to go to Slovenia because the person sitting next to me on the plane to London said I had to go. After some research from Rick Steves (Brandon’s hero), I decided this should be our next destination. I think everyone thought I was crazy, including Croatians and my Mom. I didn’t really know what to expect, I thought it would be a lot like Croatia. I was wrong, it’s more like Spain.
I suggested that we write about our impressions of the castle at lunch and Olivia decided to take charge of that post.
The entire family heard the story at the castle of why dragons are the symbol of Ljublijana. You see dragons everywhere and it's fun to capture them in photos. Ljublijana also have fountains everywhere. There are small fountains, medium fountains and big fountains. Livi and I have decided we need to take a picture with each one that we run into. Look for that on an Instagram post.
After lunch we decided to go to the National Library. The taxi driver gave us a lot of information about Ljublijana and he mentioned the library. After doing some research I decided we needed to go. I was not disappointed. It had an very serious feeling that academic and National Libraries, tend to have, but I loved the concept and idea of walking into a black staircase (black marble), making it to the top, to the reading room, when light takes over. The library had a lot of history, including a German plane crashing into it during WWII.
Afterwards we decided to check out the church. The inside was amazing, but we couldn’t take pictures. I took a great picture of he front door though, which gives you a glimpse of the inside.
We decided to go to dinner at a Noodle bar, it was so good. It was nice to have a change from pizza and spaghetti (seriously the menu is the same at every Croatian restaurant).
As we went home, we ran into a group performing songs with he 1920’s era. They were wonderful. Brandon captured some of it on videoing, which he posted to Facebook. I was very tempted to purchase their CD for some good background music during dinner time. There are musicians performing everywhere at night in the Old City. Most of them are very good, it's such a vibrant city to wander.
This country is amazing, it’s so hard to describe. Slovenia you have my heart.

I remember the feel of being in the cave. What a wonderful place. I can still smell it. The Karst region.
