Day 1 in London
By: Tiffany
Location: London
Today started a little rough because Olivia had a really bad night of sleep. She couldn't sleep for the longest time and finally got to sleep around 4 am. We woke her up at 8 am because I didn't want her to sleep all day and we wanted to get an early start on our day. Luke, on the other hand, slept for about 16 hours and woke up ready to tackle the day.
We started our day at Starbucks because Luke was excited that there was a Starbucks. I told him that tomorrow I get to pick where we have breakfast. No more Starbucks for us, we can get that anywhere. Livi was disappointed that her favorite drink doesn't taste the same in London.
We started the day at the British Museum. We could have spent the entire day there, easily. There is so much to see and do. They have mini challenges for families to take and we did 3 of them. The kids loved looking around the museum and completing the challenges. I chose the picture below because this shows what Luke did the entire museum, he took pictures and when I mean he took pictures he took A LOT of pictures. I get the task of sorting the photos.

I really enjoyed the Ancient Egypt section of the museum. My favorite moment was when we were traveling between rooms to follow the challenge and while we were passing by the mummies Luke said: "I'm looking down because I don't want to see the Mummies yet". Livi did not enjoy the Ancient Egypt mummies as much as Luke and I did.
There were lots and lots of old things in the museum, but this African costume used for parades was really incredible.
I also really enjoyed the room of curiosities. The museum is so big, I saw rooms that we never went into 5 years ago and there is still far more to explore.
After grabbing a bite at a food truck at the museum we headed over to the British Library. The British Library's collection was amazing. So many old books. I could have spend a lot more time in there, but the kids were getting restless. It was a lot of reading small plaques and they didn't seem as impressed with an illustrated medical book from the 1100's as I was. It showed where to do blood letting! There was also a great collection of different editions of Frankenstein that made me think about my co-worker Vicki (she loves that book). The best was the illustrated medical book though. How cool is that?!? (Sadly, no photos were allowed in there).
We did some walking around, but I will Brandon tell you about that.
Finally, we had dinner with my friend from college Lindsey, who now lives in London. Lindsey made me feel old by saying that we were celebrating 20 years of friendship! 20 years since I graduated high school! Wow! Time flies. Lindsey and her husband Ilkut, treated us to pizza from their new pizza oven and it was yummy! Afterwards we walked around their neighborhood and had a beer at their favorite pub, the Flask. I really love their neighborhood. It was nice to see an old friend in London and I hope to see her again before we leave.
Luke rated today 5 out of 5 stars and I think he is right! The first day was a success!
