Yesterday was a travel day and we stayed out at the local pub fairly late on Friday night, so I'm doing a bit of catch up...
Tiffany talked about our Friday trip out to Richmond, which was fantastic. One of the great things about London is the variety of neighborhoods. Richmond felt like a little seaside resort town, even though it was just a few miles from the hustle and bustle of Central London.
Following Friday night's pub night at The Washington, a nice spot just a couple doors down from our flat in Belsize Park, we got up early and met Lindsey and Ilkut for breakfast at a great little bakery down the road. It has been nice having a couple locals who can point out great spots that are a bit off the beaten path.
I hired a taxi to drive us to the train station to London Stansted airport, but after talking to the driver a bit, decided to just have him drive us the whole way. Had a great chat with the driver who, twenty years earlier, was a refugee from Kosovo. We talked about the war in the former Yugoslavia as well as many other things on the one hour journey.
Our flight was pretty uneventful, which is about the best you can hope for with air travel, I suppose.
At the Bilbao airport, we grabbed a snack and Livi was pleased to see they had Jamon (ham) flavored potato chips. Livi loves ham. In fact, she'll tell you she's a fan of the entire catalog of pig-based meats.
We rode a one-hour bus from Bilbao to the town of San Sebastian (also known as Donostia), then lugged our suitcases about 10 minutes to our street.
Our flat is incredible. Just above a busy thoroughfare that features many great looking bars and restaurants. The town also appears very walkable. Our Airbnb host, Mirren, met us at the place and gave us a few tips about the area. The local specialty here is pintxos, so we'll look forward to checking those out soon.
After a short walk to explore the area, we sat down for a quick dinner before returning to the flat to watch the Croatia-Nigeria match (Croatia won 2-0!).
Hoping we can explore the town today in a bit more relaxed manner than London.
Until next time...
