Stunning!
Author: Tiffany (Mom)
We have arrived in Croatia and it’s everything I remember. The weather is a little rainy, but that’s ok because we had really hot weather in Spain. The weather should get nicer next week and we plan on swimming then. Today I woke up and had a great run (more on that on a different day). We had a light rain all day so Brandon decided we should take a drive. We went to a really great small town and had lunch and walked around, but I will let Brandon tell you more about that.
Afterwards we decided to go to Fort Sokol, which we haven’t heard about and just saw it on a sign. Wow! To say it was amazing is not enough. It was incredible. It’s a natural fortress and castle that was built around 1373. It was built into the mountains and the view was one I’ve never seen before. You feel like you are on the top of the world. The fort was an amazing part of history. I think we saw 2 other families there. We haven’t seen any references to this fort in any guidebooks (granted my guidebook isn’t the greatest). A part of me wants to tell the world, the other part of me wants it to remain a “secret”.
When being on the top of the world and exploring this wonderful secret castle, we came upon a cafe/bar. They serve coffee, juice, soda and beer. When you have an opportunity to have coffee at the top of a mountain in a castle, you do it and you take a selfie.
Here are some pictures I took from our trip. I hope some day everyone can experience unexpected history like we stumbled on today.
The kids are doing great. For the most part they are getting along and as a family we are clicking better than ever. We are getting used to slowing down. I do like the idea of purchasing the old family home in the middle the town square, but I don’t think I can convince Brandon.
The language is hard because I have no vocabulary. At least in Spain I have some background knowledge. The best is watching Brandon try to speak it. He does a good job sounding out the words to our relatives but we never know what they say in return. We are doing a good job of communicating by using Google translate. Thank goodness for technology.
We had a lot more wonderful things happen today, but I will let Brandon tell you. I’m very thankful to be here and experience Croatia again. We are expecting rain for 3 more days so I hope we can keep ourselves busy for those 3 days!
Tiffany out!
